This collects Cautionary Tales for Children, New Cautionary Tales, The Bad Child's Book of Beasts, More Beasts for Worse Children, More Peers, A Moral Alphabet, and Ladies and Gentlemen. All are dated, some uncomfortably so, while others have aged pretty well/5.
I was raised on these lovely tales and other verses by Hilaire Belloc. My favorite of all the Cautionary Verses is 'John Vavasoeur de Quentin Jones' (who was very fond of throwing stones).
It is not included in this book and is quite hard to find. Perhaps there is a copyright problem I /5(13). The verses in Belloc’s “Bad Child’s Book of Beasts” and “More Beasts for Worse Children” are clever, but, to me, they lack the inspired nonsense of Author: Calvin Tomkins.
